The Art Servant

From August 12-18, 2006, I installed myself in the Project Gallery at Dinnerware for a week and offered my art services to the public at large. For that week I performed art tasks (drawing, painting, performances, etc.) requested by people through the internet. For example, someone could ask me to draw a picture of their cat. They would send me a picture of their cat, and I would draw from this image and email them the result. The actual drawings and correspondence were attached to the gallery wall. Via a webcam, the entire process was broadcast on the internet.

The purpose of the project is to create community and engagement by giving the viewer authorship over my art making process and the finished product.

The intent is to involve the viewer in the art-making process. It combines reality TV, internet chat rooms, how-to painting shows, and performance art.
